Granite Countertops in Phoenix’s West Valley
Granite countertops are a popular choice for countertops in kitchens and bathrooms due to their durability and aesthetic appeal. Granite is a stone most suitable for kitchens as it comes in a variety of colors and patterns, is heat resistant, fairly easy to maintain, and will last for many years when cared for properly. Like all natural stone, however, granite is porous and does require sealing to protect it from stains and to maintain its appearance.
Buying Granite Countertops
Purchasing granite countertops involves several steps, but ultimately begins with a plan. With a budget in mind, your design session starts with your free, in-home estimate. During our visit, we will talk to you about your project, provide samples and recommendations, and take necessary measurements.
Once we have discussed the details of your project, you will then have the opportunity to visit one of our stone suppliers to view stone pieces up close and to get a real feel for how the stone slab will look in your space. Things to consider when choosing granite for a kitchen countertop are the color, pattern, and finish of the material. Additionally, granite countertops come in different edge profiles and thicknesses.
When the stone is selected, a comprehensive estimate is provided. Upon your written approval, the stone is ordered, fabricated, and installed. This can take 2-3 weeks from the date of your written approval.
Granite Countertop Installation
While the stone is being fabricated, the homeowner will be responsible for ordering any necessary appliances, including the kitchen sink. When the kitchen sink is in hand, we pick up the template included in the packaging for use during fabrication. All plumbing involved, including disconnect, reconnect, or even replacement, is the homeowner’s responsibility. On the day of installation, we will remove and haul away the old countertop and install the new countertop, including any necessary support to accommodate for the new countertop and sink (this is discussed at time of estimate). On average, a typical kitchen countertop installation can take anywhere from a few hours to a day or two. Several factors, including the size and complexity of your kitchen and the type of material chosen, can determine the amount of time it takes for the actual install.
Where to Buy Granite in Phoenix
As part of the installation process, our clients have the opportunity to view, firsthand, different types of granite to experience how the material looks, feels, and how it potentially reflects light. We work with several granite suppliers in the Phoenix area that include MSI, Aracruz RE, and Boulder Image Premium Quartz. These partners have qualified associates available onsite to further guide you and answer any questions you may have about the material, cost, and availability.
Granite Care and Repair
To ensure granite countertops remain in excellent condition during your ownership, there are several guidelines to follow for the care and maintenance of granite. Caring for and maintaining granite countertops involves regular cleaning, proper sealing, and taking precautions to prevent damage. Additionally, if any damage occurs, it’s important to address it promptly. Here are guidelines for caring for and repairing granite:
Consistent Cleaning: Granite should be kept clean with daily wiping using a cloth or sponge and a mild, pH-balanced dish soap or granite cleaner.
Avoid Abrasive Cleaners: Abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, and harsh cleaners should be avoided. They can scratch the surface of granite and potentially degrade the sealant.
Sealing: Because granite is a natural stone, it is also porous. It is generally recommended that granite countertops be sealed annually (depending on type of granite and level of use). The manufacturer’s recommendations should always be followed.
Wipe Spills Promptly: To prevent staining, spills should be wiped immediately. Discoloration from acidic substances such as lemon juice, vinegar, wine, or coffee can occur when left untreated even if the surface is sealed.
Avoid Damage: Although durable, granite is not indestructible. Care should be taken to avoid dropping heavy objects onto the countertop that could chip or crack it.
Sealer Touch-up: When liquids no longer bead up on the surface, it may be time to reapply sealant. Always clean the surface thoroughly using a mild detergent and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Calling in the Professionals: To correct a chip or crack in your granite or for any damage you are unsure of how to correct, always consult the professionals. We specialize in granite repair and can assess your specific situation in a timely manner. It is always advisable to address issues promptly to preserve the beauty and integrity of your granite countertop.
